Family Friendly Skiing Near Boston: Wachusett Mountain

Take it away, Lauryn! We became official New Englanders almost 2 years ago. And since the day we first rested our heads on our pillows in Massachusetts all three of the kids have been asking to go skiing. I have no idea where they got the idea that magically you appear in June in New England and there is snow to ski on. Well, in a huge #parentfail last winter, we never made it to the slopes. But this year…this year we did and it was incredible. In fact, it was more than incredible. Let’s just say we got a gold medal in the “best mom and dad ever” event. Wachusett Mountain – in March – was the perfect skiing experience for these kids. A little over an hour away from our home, just outside of Worcester, MA, we arrived at the mountain at 8:30 a.m. sharp. The weather was perfect that day – 45 degrees. I actually was shocked at how much snow was on the mountain. I thought for sure the slopes would be run down and possibly even icy but they were most definitely not! Free Children’s Winter Festival at Boston Common on School Vacation Week THURSDAY

NOTE: Boston Parks has just announced a date change due to forecasted weather on Tuesday. This event will now take place on Thursday. Boston Parks and Recreation Department will be bringing the annual Children’s Winter Festival to Boston Common during school vacation week on Thursday, February 18 (THIS IS A DATE CHANGE), from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Among the attractions will be Snowzilla, a three-story-high inflatable snow tube slide, and SnowGlobe Live!, a 15-foot-tall snow globe that allows participants to step inside for winter wonderland photos. In addition, the Highland Street Foundation is sponsoring a week-long Winter Camp at the Boston Common Frog Pond with free skating and rentals for all ages from Monday, February 15, through Friday, February 19. The festival will also feature a DJ from Magic 106.7, an appearance by the L.L.Bean Bootmobile, and refreshments from Essentia Water, DAVIDsTEA, and Dunkin’ Donuts. Big Air at Fenway on February 11th and 12th

Tickets Available Now Fenway Park will host a big air snowboarding and freeskiing U.S. Grand Prix tour event on February 11-12, 2016. “Big Air at Fenway” will feature a 140-foot high snow ramp, taller than the light towers at the ballpark, and bring in athletes from around the world including Olympic and World Champions. As a U.S. Grand Prix and part of the International Ski Federation’s (FIS) World Cup tour, Big Air at Fenway will bring in many of the top big air competitors including Olympic slopestyle skiing gold medalist Joss Christensen, slopestyle snowboarding Olympic champion Sage Kotsenburg and Olympian Ty Walker. In big air, snowboarders and skiers do a single trick off a ramp similar to those seen on slopestyle courses. Men’s and women’s big air snowboarding will debut at the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea. Men’s big air snowboarding has been part of the FIS World Championships since 2003. It was added to the World Cup tour for women a year ago, with Walker winning the opener at a city stadium event in Istanbul. Get tickets here.
