On Tuesday night, we headed into Boston in the middle of the crazy Nor’Easter for Opening Night of Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer: The Musical at the Shubert Theater. Traffic was horrible, we were getting soaked, and I was nervous about my little guy sitting still through a performance on a school night. Literally the moment we stepped through the doors of the Shubert, all of that stress what wiped away.
Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer: The Musical is such a delightful holiday treat for the whole family. The performance was created to really be close to the original Rudolph tv special, and you could really feel it. A combination of sound effects and image and video projection absolutely brings the story to a level that kept my super active 6 year old boy mesmerized by what was going on on stage.
Not that it will matter if your little one is a little more loud than would be acceptable at a theater event. Rudolph: The Musical is very family friendly. On the night we were there, there were so many kids and you could hear some wayward commenting on what they were seeing. I think, above all, it was a very comfortable experience.
To add to the comfort factor, the show is short. Only 1 hour and 30 minutes from start to finish with a 15 minute intermission in between. This is the perfect introduction to theater for children who have never been. The scenes are also short making it easier for them to stay attentive.
Holiday spirit is abound. The story and the music and the awesome singalong that ends the show will definitely have your family feeling festive!
